who am i?

My professional and personal experiences have brought me to the places where stories begin and end, witnessing and supporting families and individuals as they encounter moments of transition in their lives.

I currently work as a hospice nurse liaison, a Narrative Medicine workshop facilitator and a writer. I have had a private practice for integrative health care since 2016. My services include yoga and meditation instruction, biodynamic craniosacral therapy and end of life support.

I am a registered nurse in NY and NJ with extensive hospital experience in labor and delivery, postpartum and nursery, and hospice. I am also a trained end of life doula. I teach yoga and meditation in class settings and privately, and my own meditation practice is a deep and integral part of every aspect of my work. I hold a masters degree in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University and facilitate workshops for clinicians to further explore and promote clinical practice as a creative and compassionate endeavor, accessible to all.

I began my life as the daughter of two musicians who planted seeds early in my life for beauty, reverence, creativity and service.  I became a dancer, then returned to university to complete a BA in art history.  I met my husband, a Tunisian chef, while working as a waitress after college. Love, marriage, children and a restaurant of our own followed in quick succession.  I managed home and business and turned to yoga for support and refuge.  I knew that I would need a practice that helped me to stay grounded in the midst of it all.

In 2004, my 6 year old son was diagnosed with epilepsy.  It was my search for alternative and supportive treatments that led me to craniosacral therapy.  The benefit was immediate and profound, making it possible for him to lead a full and balanced life.   The following year, more illness visited my family, as well as the deaths of a dear friend, my beloved grandmother, and my husband's mother, herself a healer in the neighborhood of Tunis where he had spent his childhood.  I found myself drawn to the healing arts and went back to school.

In 2009, I completed my yoga teacher's training with Jennifer Kohl of Lotus Yoga in NJ and in 2011 completed my nursing degree and became an RN, imagining a world where alternative and allopathic treatments could be integrated in the service of well-being.

I completed an Eden Energy Medicine certification course in 2014, which introduced me to the meridians and elements of the traditional Chinese model and deepened my understanding of the chakras and their significance in the ayurvedic method. I also began to work with essential oils and herbs.

It was my son's craniosacral therapist, Jacqulin Winchester, a certified nurse practitioner,  who encouraged me to study with Franklyn Sills. I am forever grateful to her, and to Franklyn Sills, my teacher, for his guidance, and his teachings, wisdom and experience in this most extraordinary path of healing and wellness.   I was certified and have been practicing as a BCST since 2016.

I have always worked with immigrants, both patients and colleagues.  I feel attuned to the challenges faced by this particular population, perhaps because my mother and husband were both born and raised outside the US. I have lived and worked in different countries and am deeply committed to equitable healthcare and treatment for all.
